When Tom Subjak took over as festival director of the Illawarra's annual short film competition, Short Sited, he was determined to raise the event's profile.

After Short-Sited-v12.0 was held in March, Subjak set about developing a DVD which captured the excitement, diversity and skill of the region's film-makers.

This two-disc DVD has since been released for purchase through the Short Sited website or for hire through the Illawarra's Video Ezy stores.

Subjak says he is thrilled about the hiring possibilities of the Short-Sited-v12.0 DVD, which should take Short Sited to a broader audience.

While it is following the lead of other festivals, like Tropfest, that have their own DVD releases, Subjak says the Short Sited program offers viewers a whole range of material.

Finalist film-makers from the 2008 event provided audio commentaries covering the trials of creating a short film, there's a film database, intermission music and a bonus film: Cowboys and Indians, an audience favourite at Short Sited 11 in 2007.

"It became this complete archive of everything that would go into putting the festival together," Subjak says.

The DVD is also a good show reel for competitors.

"I hope people (hire) it out. It's an important development in the history of the festival and it takes it to the next step."
