If you're an actor, read no further. Actors are banned (even though we've used their pictures for the purpose of this exercise) from Theatreworks' Speed Dating For Artists, which it describes as "a fun series of events where you might find your new creative partner" in a night of networking for artists and theatre makers "hungry to join you on your next creative endeavour". And the only rule: "no actors".

The series is on Mondays at 6pm at Theatreworks, 14 Acland Street, St Kilda. The first session is on May 5 and thereafter at intervals throughout the year.

Nominations close on May 7 for the 2008 Premier's Design Awards, which covers the spectrum of design from industrial and product design to landscaping or film or theatre sets. Another of the state's important awards is the Premier's Award for Design Leadership. "The recipient will be an individual, not necessarily a professional designer, who has led Victoria by design, profoundly influenced the design industry and is exemplary in his/her contribution to the development of design in Victoria," says the blurb. Nomination forms are available online by following the links at stateofdesign.com.au and must be sent with supporting materials, images and documentation.

On the subject of awards, entries must be in by May 9 for the Nestle Golden Chef's Hat Award, which claims to be the only annual culinary competition dedicated to the development of Australia's junior and apprentice chefs aged 23 years and under. This year's national winners will receive travel valued at $15,000, to attend the 2008 World Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany and watch the Australian team in action.

Young chefs must enter as teams of two, nominating a team leader and an assistant.

Each team member must send in an original recipe, using a minimum of two Nestle products, plus photos of the prepared dishes, along with a written brief on each chef's career aspirations for the next five years.

Women of Note is a diverse group that supports Girl Guides Victoria, helping to make a difference for girls and women of the future.

On Friday, May 30 the group will hold its 13th annual Mentor Breakfast at the ANZ Pavilion under the spire at the Arts Centre in St Kilda Road.

The breakfast will bring together students in year 11 and women role models from a variety of fields who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences. A mentor fee of $65 includes sponsorship of a student on the day. For more information, email womenofnote@fastmail.fm
